Hey guys, looking for some help on buying a surfboard. I’m 6ft, 183-189lbs. I’m looking for a short board. I’m a beginner but will pick it up soon and already have been out a couple of times on a long board and cought some waves. I’m in good shape (athletic ability, do skateboarding, snowboarding, Thai boxing, and general fitness).

Someone told me that a good rule of thumb is to get a board that’s at least 6 inches higher than your height…

Wandering if that’s true, and just in general, what would be a size good for me if I want to surf on a short board, do a lot of carves, etc.

I’m looking to buy a new surfboard. I would say I’m an intermediate surfer, but can advance quickly. I’m athletic and usually pick up things quickly. I mostly surf in Huntington Beach/Bolsa Chica (pacific). I’m 6′ 155lbs. What would you suggest? Should I get a shortboard and try to learn it or get a mid and upgrade once I master that one? Brands would be nice too! Thanks guys

I was looking at a 6′6 Thruster surfboard.
I’m getting the hang of surfing pretty well.

I am 5′9 and weigh from 160-165 (varies)

Is that board okay for me to use for a year or two?
If not, what do you guys recommend?

can you surf on a knee board? i have an obrien knee board that is about 4 feet long and i am 5 foot 5. the board is is semispoon shape and compression molded. i was wondering if i could use it as a surf board in the ocean. i have used it body boarding and it worked good for that. i want to learn to surf butt dont have 300$ for a new board and dont want to pay the shipping on one from ebay. i dont live near the coast so i cant buy one used eaither. so is it posible to surf on a knee board with a nuf balance?
